back breaking fashion

i just luged these skinny women up a hill in a thin canvas bag and my back is screaming. admittedly it was with a couple bags of groceries ,but even though ads are down this year these magazines still weigh a ton !

riding in cars with dunn

I'm a little let down to hear jordan dunn is pregnant. because when you can count the black women walking in high fashion on one hand. you don't want anything to give people a reason not to higher them. its her choice and her body but i wish she had waited till she was at a point in her career like liya kebede or Naomi to be able to pick and choose her jobs.  i just hope she doesn't quit or her body doesn't change so much that she cant work.

7 stages of chanel

Karl Lagerfeld has amazing taste and Coco Chanel was an amazing designer but some times the collections for Chanel can be a little dowdy.  Am i the only person who gets a caught up in the flashy sets , accessories, and  music ? But then when everything quiets down I'm wondering what in the collection would i wear? The accessories are amazing and the shoes and jewelry are lust worthy but some times Chanel can be so sexless.

True Chanel was always a lady but these last few collection have been so dower and preening bourgeoisie. When i think of the Chanel legacy  i imagined something so different. Chanel was an independent woman but she loved men so were is that love the seduction the air of mystery and intrigue.  Seriously Chanel introduced jersey into women's fashion and she respected the female figure  . Wheres the freedom in this i want less ostentation and more quiet seduction.

join the funky bunch

I'm crazy excited about the prospect of Alexander Wang putting out a men's line but this preview leaves me a little cold. I really thought that like Rick Owen's first men's collection when i d get my first peek  Alex's first collection i would lust after it all but this is sad. Its very Marky mark and the funky bunch or lower east side hustler. i really feel like i could go to any department store in middle America and buy these same pieces for less.

neo renaissance luxs

Before this editorial i wasn't a fan of lily Donaldson or white clothing but nick knight and Lily have changed my mind drastically. Usually whenever i saw lily on the runway or in an editorial she always seemed tired and above it all, however after seeing her in motion I'm now a fan . Now i want a closet of statement white pieces along with crazy moisturized skin and thick hair.  the weird things is i've always been on the fence about my thick hair . But seeing lily rock it in this shoot makes me want to grow mine out and embrace the wave and curl.  I'm still amazed that something as simple as erasing your eyebrows and pairing it with extremely pampered skin and hair can make someone  look so expensive . really the simplest garments or changes  can make the biggest statements.

trainspotting in closets

today was moving day  and while i was collapsed on the ground out of breath ,i thought if any one walked in this would look like a scene out of trainspotting.  which isn't a bad thing , i like the grungy heroin look and all my clothing choices have been moving toward that nineties aesthetic. so i wouldn't be upset if someone said i looked a little strung out because  i've gotten that assessment before.  but i feel i'm  lacking creativity  so maybe i should re-watch trainspotting and pick up some tips.

however i really don't understand the eighties crazy fashions moving into for fall winter . it was horrible the first time, why would any want to relive it a second time and pay more for it?true i do get a little weak in the knees around harem and peg leg  pants but thats it. ok and maybe a jacket with strong shoulders but thats where i draw the line. so i'm going to ride out this eighties wave  and hope that spring 2010 is a little less rainbow brighttastic.

the crying game

I never suspected Karl to make a crying game inspired dress, if any designer i thought Jean Paul Gaultier would with his sense of humour and irony. i think it would be hilarious to see Coco Rocha in a Gaultier campaign glamored out and hiding the candy .

these shoes were made for hobbling

Im torn between thinking these shoes are insane and amazing .i feel for women who wear heels they are crazy snd wonderful things. if i had the option i would wear them all and feel fabulous while i fall to the ground screaming. o how sexy would i be gnashing my teeth  and massaging my bruised ankles after falling of the nina ricci's.  really i think i could look elegant while my feet contort from silent cramps. even though shoes that high aren't practical i still wish mens shoe were that high , maybe because the short kid in me wants to tower over people.

feeling a little rusty and needing a cup of tea

sometimes a shirt can be to white and then it needs a cup of tea and a horse shoe to the back.

a mix of fear and awe

o sneja how i fear you but I'm still in awe of your skill. i agree with the fashion industry she is an amazing model who never looks cheap or shoddy in an editorial. however she scares the beans out of me !shes like the physical embodiment of the white queen from Narnia.

i get the feeling that whenever she walks into a room poker face by lady gaga blares through the walls. is she happy is she mad is she planning the demise of everyone in the room ? who knows her face is perfectly stone blank and icy .

i cant say what kind of person she is, but i imagine that if you knew her you wouldn't insult her or you would be shot in the foot. why the foot ?why shot ?i don't know that's sneja you cross her you lose a toe that's just life onopka style.

dirty project this forest in my mind

I do love the subtropical meets old world forest of my home town, but sometimes i wish i lived in a pine filled Nordic forest. because then i could dress like a Bedouin or a viking and not look out of place. plus i wouldn't die of the sweltering heat and humidity that suffocates this city.

Seriously i cant get this video out of my head .now in the hottest part of the year i want chunky knits , cowls, and alpaca yarn. so I'm off to research Sherpa , viking , and indigenous mountain people of South Americas clothing . maybe i should throw in druids and women in white for good measure.

my magpie eye

i thought i was done with givenchy but no riccardo lures me back in with the white section of his collection. like a giant magpie I'm all a flutter about the bedazzled jackets in the collection. usually I'm a little wary of studs ,grommets, and spikes because i imagine myself to be to lame to pull them off and fear looking like a rogue biker daddy walking down the street.
however I'm completely confused ,why do i need this why do i like it and how can i recreate it. so I'm thinking jangly spike studs are a little hard to find but gold key rings are a dime a dozen. so now the next item on my list of couture diys is a knitted key chain covered swing jacket. if you don't see me coming down the street you'll certainly hear me.

viktor and rolf a step ahead and always on time

why do i look at any other designers besides Viktor Horsting and Rolf Snoeren ? they are the be all end all to my fashion dreams ,every one of their collections fits some part of my aesthetic . whether its the music of Tori Amos or just the redheaded wonderfulness of both Tori and Tilda Swinton. the dynamic duo of Viktor and Rolf always keep me wondering what will they do next to enthral me to make me dream to make me covet. their continues reinterpretation and remixing of traditional garments like the white shirt or trouser suit makes me wish i had the money to buy every piece in their collections.
really? how amazing does tilda look so chic and sharp like a modern day queen Elizabeth.

I'm still in awe of their collaboration with tori and her improvisation of the song of Solomon at their fall 2005 show. I'm so sad that i cant find her performance to download and enjoy , it might not be catchiest song in runway history but it does leave a sonic mark in your memory.

also why cant i have a wardrobe full of no ? Even when I'm out about the town and I'm dutifully saying yes i still vehemently want my wardrobe to scream no elegantly.
sadly i couldn't find a picture of the viktor & rolf island they had projected in the background of their fall 2007 show that island would be my Disney world if it existed.

in the desert i crave givenchy

When most people think fashion they think it is just about pretty clothing and name brands but to me its more about expressing a personal view or current state in life. Lately I've been dreaming about dessert inspired clothing the idea of clothing that is both protective , practical , stylish , and functional engages me. Maybe its because I'm moving to a new city and starting another stage in my life but I'm craving comfort along with fluidity.

So when i first saw the givenchy haute couture fall 2009 collection my style radar pinged it fit every criteria i had. The sparse pallet of black and white with shots of red and metallic felt somber but rich like traveling with a raucous caravan ,while lingering on the outside fringes with the sun at your back. The clothes look like you can feel the desert sun on your skin but still feel swaddled and cocooned by their light fabrics .

Now I'm contemplating taking my left over jersey and leather and piecing together some tough liquid yet somber jackets to shield me in excursions around my new home town. along with some tragically draped harem pants. even if i look like some escaped desert nomad ill feel secure knowing that I'm expressing my inner fashion landscape, and isn't that what styles about self expression.

needing wanting referencing

where can i get that catsuit.

Labels:

this kitten has claws

Since i first saw her I've always loved cat woman the suit ,the whip ,the cat like grace and razor sharp sarcasm have always appealed to me. Don't give me clean cut superman or eternally brooding batman , i want my heroes to be ambiguously evil and tortured.

im alway atracted to darker potrayls of characters especially Michelle pfeiffer's portrayal of catwoman in batman returns .the contrast of being completely unhinged but still in control is intriguing. I'm really inspired to apply that philosophy to dressing the contrast of nun and vamp mixed into a teetering stew would be amazing.

now i just need to stock up on gloves , latex tights, and spiky footwear to incorporate that whole kitten with a whip feeling into my closet. maybe even braided leather jewelry could give the feeling of the every present cat whip/bull whip.

this picture is truly amazing because it combines both my love for cat woman and coco rocha's modeling talent. i think everything can benefit from fierce poses , black latex , and long legs.

i seriously need shoes like this to complete the whole look and maybe even a body suit like coco's in the video below to up the vamp factor.

let me into your clothes and closet

That title can be interpreted in so many creepy and different ways, but http://stylelikeu.com/ for me is summed up best by that phrase. Its an amazing rabbit hole into other people's thoughts concerning fashion and whats involved in compiling a wardrobe.

I imagine it could be an amazing jumping off point for understanding the evolution of personal style and taste. along with being a crazy amazing way to develop a default mood board by just free styling a back story for a person or even drawing inspiration from a random
video still.
On a side note this guys eyebrows or lack there of is amazing . if i had the face to pull it off ,like a Renaissance maiden my eyebrows would be gone.

look ma no pants

The styling for john galliano’s newest collection for Dior couture has me thinking . how can i pull off the sans pants trend without coming off like that creepy open robe guy down the street.
So lets review the options

option 1)bike shorts - the classy yet daring option, true they don’t leave much to the imagination but at least they don’t scream I wear my underwear on the outside

option 2) lady gaga spanky pants
Really i mean really yeah there is just no way .
Seriously there can only be one lady gaga ,and the image of a full grown man in hot pants walking down the street blasting raindrops by basement jaxx would scar way to many people to imagine.

So I think Ill stick with the first option hip hugging ,thigh crazing bike shorts and ill just be that guy who lazes about in exercise gear while eating junk food.
